Summary: the Dutch journalist and historian Ad van Liempt was one of the key players in the Dutch media landscape. He was editor-in-chief of Nova, the Dutch copy of BBC's Newsnight. He was/is a member of numerous media organizations boards and supervisory boards. In 2012-2017 he was heavily involved in the production of and publicity for Isabel van Boetzelaer's book War Parents (Oorlogsouders). Shortly after this work was published, it was exposed by author and Holocaust survivor Chaja Polak and researcher Maarten van Voorst as a fraudulent book, in which Van Boetzelaer tried to rehabilitate her father Willem van Boetzelaer (a convicted Nazi war criminal) as a victim of his time. She also tried to depict her Nazi grandfather Hilmar von der Recke as a member of the German resistance - which he wasn't: he had been an merciless commander of a Nazi P.o.W. camp. When Isabel van Boetzelaer was exposed as a liar, Van Liempt tried to minimize his cooperation on her book, by telling lies himself. Because of this, quite a few Dutch historians, tv-makers and journalists who've had bad experiences with Van Liempt in the past, spoke out against him, and revealed that Van Liempt had misused their work, by presenting it as his own. When they did so, Van Liempt opened a full scale media offensive against his opponents, by telling even more lies and insinuations. His opponents however, collected more and more solid evidence, from which can be concluded that the oeuvre of Van Liempt is built on plagiarism and deceit. This all resulted in 'The Affair Ad van Liempt'. All details soon to be found here. See also: Sven Felix Kellerhoff. Niederländische Bestseller-Geschichte ist erlogen. Welt, Berlin, 22-11-2017. |
